Pool Commission Floats a Response to Summer Woes

metpool02 opening day 1967.jpgMetuchen Municipal Pool members found a short note in their mailboxes this week, laying out the Pool Commission's plans for fixing the issues caused by the faulty filter from this past season. Three key points were highlighted in the note and the overall vibe is that all is now well. But will it be enough to ensure the membership's return?

  • Construction on the new filter system has begun and this will correct all problems encountered during the 2008 summer season;

  • 2008 members "will not be subject to 2009 membership fee increases to recognize any inconvenience they may have encountered."

  • The Pool Commission will host a FREE Member Appreciation Day on opening day, Saturday, May 23, 2009 (raindate Monday, May 25, 2009). Activities, entertainment, food--a fun-filled day is planned at no expense to the membership. The staff will be there to meet and greet old and new members alike and the "facility improvements" will be on full display.

Although the pool was only closed for 25 hours of swim time during the filter fiasco of summer 2008, that amount of time and the non-disclosure of information regarding the problems that caused the closing caused Metuchen Municipal Pool members to doubt the safety of the water for the rest of the season. There were many afternoons where the poolside looked as vacant as old Yankee Stadium does now. However, the Pool Commission is on top of these necessary changes that will prevent another mishap from ruining any more pool parties.

Metuchen Matters will be speaking to Tim Dacey, Council Liasion to the Pool, regarding an enumeration and descriptions of the additional improvements being made on the pool site for next season.
