The Board of Education's budget preparation schedule was released yesterday in Metuchen School Superintendent Terri Sinatra's newsletter, "From the Schoolhouse to Your House." The Board is urging residents to attend or watch the televised meetings during this process and email questions regarding the various issues to the Board. "We are committed to an open process and will continue that commitment through this year's budget preparation," Sinatra writes. So you can know when your particular concerns are on the agenda for discussion, here is the schedule as it stands at this time.

One of these meetings has already taken place. (The dates with astrerix are subject to change after the State Department of Education sends Metuchen its budget guidelines).

As Board member Ben Small announced at the Campbell/Moss PTO meeting on November 25th, the budget is gone over, line item by line item, throughout the process and that is why "line item budget" appears on the agenda so many times.

Whether you have an infant who will someday be part of the school system or you have just completed writing that last check to pay off a child's college education or your children are now sending their own children to college, part of every citizen's tax dollars go to this school district and its public schools. If the BOE is opening this process, let's hope that Metuchen's townspeople will respond with valid and varied questions and comments throughout the budget considerations.

If you do not receive the newsletter at present and wish to have it emailed to you, plaese contact the Board at district-news-letters@metboe.k12.nj.us. You can also access the complete newsletter through our link here on Metuchen Matters.

It is my hope that the town's budget is analyzed with the same level of scrutiny starting in January. You can be certain I will be fighting for it.

If the BOE is opening this process, let's hope that Metuchen's townspeople will respond with valid and varied questions and comments throughout the budget considerations

Lets also hope that if Metuchen Townspeople respond with valid and varied questions and comments, the board of education actually listens to those and takes them under consideration.

When are we going to see the town budget analyzed in this much detail?
