Metuchen, winter 1961. Let us know if you have any old-town snow scene photos that you can add. Does anyone know what street this is?
It's easier to get completely snowed in than to have to walk through this wintry mess to get to the train station. Hasn't changed much, has it?

It's not Oak, those are the railroad's wires in the background.
Well, they didn't "have" to pile it in the middle of Main Street, they did it to keep the snow off the sidewalks so they would be clear for the shoppers. Then they scooped it up and piled it in the pool parking lot and behind the tennis courts. Very smart.
in those days, when there was that much snow, DPW had to pile it down the middle of Main Street, no parking was permitted, and they'd eventually remove it with a front end loader.
...a great concept to get pedestrians to cross at the corner!
the '61 storm? oh yeah! we spent days sledding on every hill in town! then there was the '78 whopper (or was it '77?) and my favorite... 30"+ in '96.
to paraphrase The Who: "I can sled for miles and miles and miles and miles!"
Looks like Oak Avenue to me.
"Look at the big brain on Brett."
Um, only one picture shows one side of the street.
It's Main Street. Both are near the Train Station. I believe the first photo is of the actual train station prior to it's renovation. The Second is of course the underpass.I remember that storm. Nothing moved for days but all the kids had a blast.
Um, there are two pictures. Where is the location of the top photo?
You're kidding with that question, right? It's the east side of main street, south of the train station.
