police_badge.jpegThe Metuchen Police Department and the Metuchen Auxiliary Police are looking for residents interested in becoming volunteer police officers. No experience is necessary; training will be provided.

The auxiliary police, consisting of both men and women, work with the department to reduce hazards, assist officers with patrols of the entire borough and in emergency or disastrous situations, conduct traffic, crowds and road closures, provide extra patrols at schools and places of worship, assist in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and provide services deemed necessary by Police Chief James Keane.

Requirements to become an auxiliary police officer include being a Metuchen resident 18 years old or older, having a valid driver's license, and passing a criminal background check.

This is a volunteer position. The auxiliary police officers volunteer their time in an effort to enhance the quality of life for the citizens, visitors and businesses in the community.
All applicants will be required by the county to complete the Middlesex County Auxiliary Police Academy prior to becoming an auxiliary officer. Classes start in March and run until June and are roughly three and a half hours long two nights a week. Eight Saturdays of eight-hour days of training are also required.

If interested, contact Auxiliary Capt. Richard Dana Jr., Auxiliary Sgt. Angelo Donato III or Police Officer Cynthia Velez at 732-632- 8123.

Download an application here or pick-up a copy at Police Headquarters dispatch center.

Applications can either be mailed or dropped off at the Metuchen Police Department, 500 Main St., Metuchen, NJ 08840, with attention to Metuchen Auxiliary Police Sgt. Angelo Donato III.

All applications must be sent in before Jan. 17.

If you live in Highland Park you would have to apply to Edison Auxiliary Police since they are the town next to you.

i recently returned from active military orders i am currently working girth garda. i would like to become an auxiliary officer. i am from highland park but they do not have this program who do i contact? an is it to late?

Our Auxiliary Police provide great service to our town and should be lauded for everything they do - they are there at every (and I mean EVERY) town event to help with traffic, parking, pedestrian and crowd control. If these dedicated men and women were not volunteering their time, we would be paying someone else to handle these duties (or simply not having the events) - so not only are they keeping us safe, and making our events possible, they are saving us a bundle! Please consider volunteering your time - Metuchen could use your help!
