Metuchen Baseball is in full swing!  On Saturday, the Little League opening day parade and ceremonies saw about 1000 players and family members walk from the Pearl Street parking lot to Fater Field on Oakland Ave.

An Edgar choral group beautifully opened the ceremonies with the National Anthem; Mayor Vahalla addressed the crowd, and League president George Harry led introductions of league commissioners and the dozens and dozens of volunteers who make baseball and softball in Metuchen possible.

Outgoing president Matt Redshaw and Mrs. Brenda Redshaw were honored for their years of dedication and service to the league. In fact, from this day forward, the league volunteerism award will be called The Matt Redshaw award.  A plaque dedicated to the memory of much loved, former coach Mike Fuccile was unveiled and after some words from Mike's Uncle, Father Dominic, his dad and sons threw the first pitches.

It was a perfect community celebration on a beautiful spring day. Thanks to all who made it possible, including the behind-the-scenes parents who were busy making the 100's of hot dogs for the kids' lunch. Best wishes to all for a great season!
