Knowing how to properly do CPR on an in-need fellow human being is something that all parents, teachers, coaches, grandparents and just plain folks should have in their arsenal of helpful knowledge. Lisa Garris of Metuchen EMS is sharing her personal expertise and training in the form of an at-home CPR training party. The cost is $25 per person. Host a barbecue AND save some lives at the same time--that party will be the talk of the town for weeks to come!
Why not host a CPR party?
Invite family, friends, neighbors and babysitters over and learn CPR in the comfort of your own home from an
American Heart Association certified CPR Instructor.
You can provide food and drinks for participants and make it a social event while learning skills that everyone should know.
Participants will learn adult, child and infant CPR and foreign body airway obstruction.
We've all done cookware parties, home décor shows and jewelry extravaganzas. Now it's time to do something that is both fun and can really make a difference!
This 2 hour class is tailored for individuals interested in learning CPR but do not require formal certification. No test or certification card is given*.
Classes $25 per person.
Host (1 person) is FREE with 5 paying guests!
Maximum class size 12 people.
*Certification classes are also available, ask for pricing.

How can learning a life-saving skill be anything but a great thing!?
Lisa is an involved mom in our community. She volunteers her time in many ways. I've seen her at numerous cub scouting events -- teaching our youth.
I hope that you never need to call an ambulance -- but if you do, Lisa may be one of the responders.
I think that it's wonderful to have a CPR training course that is so accessible. Of course, we can all call the Red Cross and go anytime -- but how many of us have taken the time to do that? This is an opportunity to get together with our friends and learn together. If just one party happens -- and 8 people learn -- that's great. That's 8 more people in Metuchen. Do you think that those 8 people would have enrolled in the Red Cross certification course?
Lisa -- great job for all that you do for our town!
Complete lunacy? Isn't that taking your point a bit too far?
Here's the thing to remember, there are more than few nuts who comment but many other nice and sane people out there. I've come to think of the nuts as comic relief and my daily reminder to be thankful I'm not like them! Maybe it will be like Heidi Fleiss' 'black book' and one day we'll read about who all of these nuts are!
Complete lunacy on this board recently. Go ahead and call the AHA you moron. They'll write back letting you know it's their own endorsed program. Fool. Google the words 'CPR party and' you'll find people all over the US doing this for some as high as $40 a person.
Can't we all just say thank you Lisa and if we have nothing nice to say, just say nothing at all?

Oh give me a break. Getting certified requires much more than can be done in a party and requires follow up training done regularly. You expect to become certified for $25? Think again. Profit? Know any Little League Managers that had to go through CPR training? Ask them how much it cost them to do so. It wasn't $25.
Are you saying no instructors for certification classes get paid? That seems wrong on so many levels.
This is wrong on so many levels. If Ms. Garris were to offer certification she would not be allowed to profit from it. Sounds to me like she is trying to cash in on this by cutting corners. I am forwarding a copy of this article to American Heart Association for their review and comment.
What if you help your parents, spouse or child? Would they sue you?
They'll sue everyone....it's the American Way. No good deed goes unpunished.
what happens if you end up doing something wrong while giving CPR and it hurts the person and you don't have a cert? Whos the person that's going to be sued me or the instructor when I say I don't have a cert?
Certification is overrated. With it may come legal liability and could invalidate laws that help out folks who help out others.
Everyone should know how to perform CPR. It isn't difficult to learn and you just never know. The life you save may just be someone you love.
This CPR class is geared toward the general public who do not need a certification card (for their job, etc.), but just want to learn the skills. A certification class requires the participant to pass a written and a skills test in order to be certified and hold a card. Some people may be intimidated by the testing. This is a no stress class in which you will learn and practice the same hands-on CPR skills needed to save someone in cardiac arrest.
Certification classes are available if someone requires that level of training, please e-mail me for details.
The cost of this CPR training is $25 per person. The host (1 person) is free with 5 paying guests. Maximum class size is 12 people.
Performing CPR requires some physical strength, therefore it is generally recommended that the minimum age to learn this skill is 12.
Maybe saving someone's life?
If someone saved your life, would you care if they were certified or not?
I don't see the point if you don't get certified.
Is it free?
Is there a minimum age for participants?
