For the past six years, Lynda Woodworth has made the study of art a priority in her life and has been experimenting with various media - mostly oil painting, inks, and charcoal. One of the many talented artists showcasing work at our Junebug ArtFest, Lynda was kind enough to share some background on her art, her background, and her inspiration.
When did you begin studying art?
I had taken art classes here or there before in my school years but never really focused my energy on it. So, for whatever reason, I had a feeling it was something that I should do for myself and also for my son, Jackson. He and I have been taking lessons side-by-side at the
What is your inspiration?
I have a few different sources of artistic inspiration. My father is a watercolorist specializing in outdoor
Where can we find you during Junebug?
This is our second year participating in the Junebug ArtFest. Jackson and I are stationed in front of Boyt Drugstore/Wachovia Bank each Friday evening in June and we are also entering our work into local competitions and are currently in a juried art contest in
How long have you been in Metuchen and what brought you here?
My husband Larry and I have lived in Metuchen for 10 years. We love this community and want to do all that we can to support the arts and carve out a well-rounded life for our son. We are THRILLED to see the community spirit and downtown-foot-traffic that is generated by the Junebug. Thank goodness the weather held out for us last Friday night! And we are also volunteering to help the Forum Theatre with publicity and marketing efforts, because we feel it is so important to support the performing arts, especially with the onslaught of our consumer culture, mega malls, multi-plexes, video games, etc..
What do you do when you aren't creating art?
In terms of my day job, I am a communications consultant for Johnson & Johnson, working with the pharmaceutical division on internal employee communications, leadership and strategy development. Prior to my role with J&J, I worked for a division of Grey Advertising for seven years and prior to that, I worked in the communications department for a nonprofit research think tank in NYC called Catalyst.
How can we buy your work?
Jackson and I have amassed a small collection of artwork and so we decided to photograph it and create a web site to share our art with family & friends and to create a vehicle through which we can sell prints of our work. (You will see Lynda's dad's art on the website as well)

Congratulations Lynda and Jackson on all your success as artists. We continue to be inspired by your spirit, and thrill in seeing you practice art as it should be--as a deep engagement with one's craft, and with one's community. You make us proud! It is a true pleasure to share this beautiful practice with you.
Congratulations, Lynda and Jackson! I am glad that other people finally have the opportunity to enjoy and admire your work as I have done for quite some time. Your website is a great idea and very cool!
Hiya Costellos: Wonderful to read about your artistic efforts...like lots of us you will find volunteering- work especially when it involves things you love to do, greatly rewarding and your contribution is super...congratulations to both you Lynda , and Jackson from all of us North of the Border in la Province de Québec
Lynda and Jackson,
Congrats on your wonderfully creative efforts!
Love, Sue and Bob
Just checked out Lynda and Jackson's web site. WOW! Nice work, both of you! But I just have to add -- JACKSON! I'm amazed! Your work is so sophisticated, with such attention to color, line and composition. It will be interesting to watch you continue to develop your talent as you mature.
Thanks, Teri, for an inspiring article.
BEAUTIFUL works by both mother and son!
I was most impressed!
What a great article about a wonderfully involved artist! What Lynda didn't mention is that she was a key component in helping to make the Junebug happen this year...she was selfless & endless in her work on publicity and promotion of the event, and everyone is grateful for all she did to get the word out. And, because of her active participation on the Junebug Committee, she has a wonderful painting hanging in the first show at the new Rotunda Gallery at Borough Hall! Congratulations and Thanks, Lynda, and thank you, Teri, for continuing to spotlight our artists!
Congratulations Lynda and Jackson!
See you tonight.
