You may have noticed driving into town that the Main Street bollard, that lovely median that introduces our town to traffic coming off Route 1, has suffered a nasty takedown. A drunk driver mistook the median for a parking space and plowed into it last weekend. But what will happen to the bollard, the welcoming pineapple sign and the lovely brick median that took so long to have constructed? We are sure that the town is on it. (Powers-that-be, are you on it? )

I like it, its only a danger to drunk drivers, as is just about everything else.
I think the rocks should be bigger, sol the next drunk who hits it doesnt take out the sign.
It works, it slows traffic down
That island is an eyesore and a danger to drivers. Plus, it doesn't do what it was supposed to do.
It should be taken out.
2:25, There was one reported in the news this week.
according to town rules, they arent supposed to be doing any work until 8 am.
The eyesore was never properly lighted. You need some floodlights actually pointing on the sign. Some reflective paint on the curbs would also help. The small rocks and ugly bushes doesn't make up for the fact that a army of leaf blowing DCR workers wake me up every weekend at 7am. You would think they would have planted some beautiful flowers and trees instead of tumbleweeds.
People always say that about studies, but there is no study that shows studies are worthless.
If you're doing the speed limit and sober you'd have to be not paying attention to hit that island.
I can say for myself that the sign and bricks cause me to slow down when I'm coming from Route 1. They serve as a reminder that you're heading into a residential area. That said, I don't think the sign was properly lit given its place in the middle of the road.
And there was just a study that said studies aren't worth the paper they're printed on. Studies show what the person paying for them want them to show. I can see with my own eyes that people don't slow down.
It is the, worst lit and most dangerous medium ever constructed! It has been hit several times since your blinded by the horrible blinding light that illuminates it.
Leave the pineapple, eliminate the rest!
Just an awful entrance to town

Every traffic study shows that narrowing the road (the island) or making the road less smooth (the bricks) slows cars down - not every car and not necessarily down to the speed limit. The island in particular is important as it helps cars coming off Rt1 adjust their speed.
The bricks may be too noisy to make up for any traffic calming they add, but it's unfair to say they do not work.
10:12, at least that pineapple sign really is at the edge of town, unlike the one on the county triangle.
Really? Other people who live near there told me they liked the idea of the island but not the implementation. The bricks create more noise.
And there are some big rocks there, donated by DCR.
7:12, I think Jana is slanted toward pineapple signs and brick medians.
I live there and I like it, next time make it bigger to keep the really smash the drunks cars.
Better that the drunks hit there then my car, trees, or house.
Maybe some huge boulders would help
Jana you must not know anyone who lives near there. The "island's" neighbors definitely don't think it is lovely. It's a poorly situated obstruction and those bricks don't slow people down, they just make the traffic noise louder.
