Check This Out--METV ON DEMAND

From Councilman Justin Manley:

'The effort is the culmination of years of effort on the part of Rich DeSimone and is jointly funded by the Borough and the Board of Education (60% - 40%). It's just one of many improvements to the Borough's web offerings I hope to see over the next few years.

METV announces a new VIDEO ON DEMAND system available on the Borough web site! Don't have cable? Missed a meeting? Want to see Board of Education meetings? Want to see other Borough programs covered by METV? A great deal of that content is now available on the Borough's new VOD system. More will be added as we go forward.

Go to the home page and scroll to the bottom. www.metuchennj.org.

Thanks to Rich DeSimone who heads up METV and all the folks who worked on this!

That's 13 minutes, not two hours.

Excellent work. This means Metuchen residents no longer need to sign up for cable TV service.

YouTube is free, so do both. If the White House can do it, so can Metuchen.

Great job Rich.

I don't think you can upload a 2 hour video. Their instructions say 2 Gigs or 10 minutes.

Getting Started: Video length and sizePrint
There are two ways to upload your video: by using our Single File Uploader or the YouTube Uploader (for multiple files). With either of these methods, your videos can be up to 2GB in size and 10 minutes long.

Please note, the longer and/or higher quality your video is, the more compression will be required to fit it into 2GB. You can compress your video using movie editors, like Windows MovieMaker or Apple iMovie.

Thanks for the feedback and comments. While I agree that YouTube is easy to use and would have the advantage of being no cost, this solution is low cost (Borough pays $150 a month I believe). It gives us greater flexibility and broader distribution pipes for both uploading and downloading the content. If you've ever tried to put a 2 hour video on YouTube you know that it can be quite slow. There are also features that will be coming with this solution that have yet to be turned on that can not be provided by YouTube, in particular streaming video.

The vendor, TeleVue, provides the Borough with not only this VoD service but also the bulletin board you see on METV and other broadcast equipment so we have tried to minimize cost via a single vendor solution.

Thanks again for your feedback and I would encourage you to submit your name via the Borough web site for consideration in joining the new Television and Technology Advisory Commission. We have openings and seek people who have experience with web technology as we continue the work of improving and redesigning our web offerings.

It is a nice website, but why reinvent the wheel?

Do you have any idea how easy it is to post on YouTube? Quite a few government agencies post their content there.

Would you put it up on you tube for free, it seems lot a lot of work to me, but it is nice you are willing to donate your time. I like it on the website, it is organized well.

Couldn't these have just been thrown up on YouTube? For Free? With no work involved?

It works.

The link doesn't work because of the apostrophe and the period after the g.

I mean apostrophe.

I think the extra comma is funking up the link.
