Magical Metuchen Moments: 4th Grade Marionette Show

There's been much talk about how our schools might improve - and that input has been vital and important.  But, there's a lot of good stuff going on in Metuchen too.  Hats off to the great projects some of our teachers have shared with their students.  First, Campbell School teacher Mrs. Canter's 4th grade marionette show:

A synopsis from 4th grader and participant, Collin Draper:

'The class came up with the idea for the play and characters, then made and dressed the marionettes, wrote the script, made the scenery and props, learned to move the marionettes, and performed for the parents, first graders and fourth graders.  The show was about fairy tale, storybook, and movie characters and twin tooth fairies (Stella and Bella).  The fairies are getting too many rotten teeth and so they go to Willie Wonka to convince him to make healthier foods,  Then, they try to convince other storybook characters to eat healthier and exercise.  The Grinch follows the fairies around, trying to undo what they have done and make them unhealthy.  Finally, Harry Potter puts a spell on the Grinch so he will be nice and be healthy.'

...and from Collin's parents:

'We thought it was a great year-long project that involved a lot of teamwork - every child worked on all aspects of the production.  It was a project that showed how a lot of hard work can have amazing results (and that all of the hard work can be fun too)!'

And also depends on how much the parents whine and bitch.

Kids scoring high in state test don't automatically enter UL, it largely depends on teachers recommendation.

Actually that is only one of several criteria, and it is not always the UL participants who score advanced proficient.

they already have, that's why they're in the class

Lovely art projects. Is this going to help them score advanced proficient on the state test?

This is great! Congratulations to the students for a fantastic and beautifully realized project and thanks to all the Drapers for contributing this to the site.

great pictures!!
The kids did a great job with those puppets. I saw them in Mrs Canter's room while I was helping in there. I am looking forward to my child doing this!!
