I don't know about you but I'm happy to see the Middlesex County Greenway moving forward and considering plans for expansion. It sometimes seems other counties within NJ are much better at cultivating quality of life and beautifucation projects than ours.
Reader Andy Tytla shared this photo of the footbridge (that enters just behind A&P). He and his family have ridden their bikes over and onto the Greenway. Click here to read more about the plans. - thanks Andy!

The plan is a strip of asphalt 10-12 feet wide. Has to be wheelchair accessible.
Something has to be done about the mud. Gravel or maybe old crushed black top might help. I heard somewhere that paving companies are always looking to get rid of the old blacktop. Maybe we could use some of this old stone.
It's necessary if you want the Greenway users to get across Route 1. The state thought this option was cheaper than building a new bridge for the road over the Greenway.
Now you can safely cross Route 1 and then get run over on the street level crossing at Pierson Ave.
I wasn't aware the bridge was open. Last time I passed it they still had yellow tape up.
Like Steve I hope they finish it in my lifetime. I know one person who helped get the project rolling who has already passed on.
My husband and I had been referring to that walkway as "The Bridge to Nowhere" since it appeared behind A&P and seemed to end in the middle of, well, nowhere! We figured it was just another project designed to fatten someone's wallet and that we taxpayers had just been taken, again. I'm a bit relieved to read that it is part of the Greenway project (nice, but necessary?). We'll see what this Greenway is like in another ten years----we hope the investment pays off.
Once the Pub opens ,the quality of life in Metuchen will be unmatched.
Seriously, I hope I live long enough to see the Greenway completed.
