North Edison/Metuchen Girl Scout Troops Feed Needy Families This Thanksgiving

North Edison/Metuchen Girl Scouts collected and made Turkey Boxes to help with the annual Hands of Hope Food Pantry Thanksgiving Drive. They were able to deliver 82 complete boxes and 9 bags of extra food to Hands of Hope.  They had 47 troops and 550 girls participate.  Marisa Redding, Independent Girl Scout, collected and delivered the boxes, which were distributed on Saturday, Nov. 21st.  All the boxes contained enough food items to prepare a complete Thanksgiving Day meal, turkey included, and were decorated for the holiday and included a homemade card for the family.

With an unprecedented need for food donations this holiday season, the NEMGS responded with a service unit record. The Reddings not only organized the collection, but literally collected all the boxes at their home in Edison and delivered the boxes themselves to Hands for Hope. HFH coordinators were ecstatic with the turnout. The economic downturn has created many more unexpectedly needy families this holiday season.
