Kindergarten classes at St. Francis Cathedral School in Metuchen performed a re-enactment of early Colonial times and the events leading to what we celebrate as the first Thanksgiving for all students in pre-K through 8th grade.

Sixty children sang, recited poetry and acted the roles of Native Americans teaching the colonists which crops would succeed in their new world and how best they could survive the coming winter.

The children celebrated the idea of thinking about and giving thanks for the food that grows, the bounty of our rich land, and recognizing the importance of working together.  The program was written and directed by the three Kindergarten teachers at St. Francis and the students help create their costumes in class.

At the end of the program, Principal, Mrs. Barbara Stevens, said, "We are grateful to our Kindergarten students and their teachers for reminding us of how important it is to be thankful for what we have and to celebrate that with others."

Happy Thanksgiving!
