From the Chamber of Commerce:

Mona Lisa Bakery and Pancake House is much more than a place to enjoy sweets and order breakfast.  Whether you're looking for breakfast, lunch, dinner, a sweet afternoon snack or dessert, you'll find it all at Metuchen's newest restaurant, "where the last bite tastes just as good as the first".

On Thursday, December 17th, representatives of the Metuchen Area Chamber of Commerce will be joined by Metuchen Mayor Thomas Vahalla for an official ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening celebration welcoming Nancy Saied and Remounda Rezkalla, the proprietors of Mona Lisa.  Join us at 567 Middlesex Ave. at 4:00 pm as we cut the ribbon and sample some of their delicious menu items and pastries.

While Mona Lisa may be new to Metuchen, it is certainly not new to the small Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, where they have been producing handmade breads, cookies, cakes & pastries for over three generations.  Their master baker, a native of Italy, has been learning the trade from his family since he was 13 years old.  His recipes are original ones, brought to America from the mountains of Italy, and include only 100% natural ingredients imported from Italy.  There are absolutely no preservatives or chemicals of any kind used in any of their desserts.  All of the baking is done at the flagship store and is driven daily to downtown Metuchen.

Mona Lisa has been recognized for having the "Best Cheesecake" by AM New York and Serious Eat Magazine.  In addition they have been honored with the title of "Best Brooklyn Pastry Shop" by Channel 7's Eyewitness News and by The Daily News.

Upon entering the cafĂ© style eatery, all of your senses are in for a treat.  The local staff is friendly and courteous, the soft sound of classical and jazz music sets you at ease, and the sight and smell of all the delectable desserts on display is amazing.  Once the weather will permit it, the doors will be opened and outdoor seating will wrap around the side of the building adding to the European style ambiance.  When asked how she felt about Metuchen, Remounda stated, "We love Brooklyn, but I can tell that it's going to be very easy to love Metuchen too.  We have already made so many friends."  Nancy added, "It was humbling to hear from so many residents that they know us from our Brooklyn location.  It's fantastic that we can now save them the drive to Brooklyn while still offering the same product.  It's such a nice community, and we are so excited and happy to now be part of it."

Nancy and Remounda took what they know works from the flagship store and brought it to Metuchen with a twist.  The flagship store does not offer breakfast, but the Metuchen location offers breakfast and dinner items all day long.  Their menu includes a variety of pancakes, waffles, French toast, crepes, eggs and omelettes.  If breakfast food isn't your thing, you can choose from appetizers, salads, entrees, pasta dishes or 33 different Paninis.  There's even a section of the menu just for kids.  The desserts are just too many to list, but it does include homemade gelato shipped daily to Metuchen from Brooklyn, and they specialize in custom cakes for weddings and other special occasions. In addition, they offer a complete Espresso bar featuring a variety of coffees.

Mona Lisa opens it doors at 7:00 am, seven days a week.  They remain open until 10:00 pm each night, though the kitchen closes at 9:00 pm Monday through Thursday. For your convenience Mona Lisa offers free delivery, all major credit cards are accepted, and be sure to look for discount coupons in The Crit, The Sentinel, Clipper Magazine, and Smart Shopper Magazine.  As an additional convenience, they will ship your orders of pastries, cakes and breads anywhere in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.  Visit their website at to place your order for shipment.  For additional information call the Mona Lisa Bakery and Pancake House at 732-321-9090.
