There will be a delayed opening today for all Metuchen public schools. Edgar Middle School will begin at 9:35, MHS at 9:50. Campbell at 10AM, Moss at 10:05 and 1:04 PM.
Coleen, I got to agree with you. Can someone please tell an aging male with no kids what "Tardy" really means anymore. Does it matter and how so? I am serious. If your child is getting on a bus 99.9% of the time and they are dropped off by the bus what the heck does being later once really mean and, especially if the kids are late because of bad weather? If you have to drive your kid to school and the school is snow delayed why are they noted as tardy and why/how are they penalized and why is it tolerated?
Is this really a reason or justification as to why tax payers bear the cost to bus children at a projected cost this year of $1.6 million dollars for our Metuchen taxpayers before downward adjustments to get them to school on time? Now, that's what I call the educational industrial complex.
Truthfully, I am still amazed by opening schools late at all for this kind of weather. Three inches of snow I could see. So, what does all it mean? Why is a tardiness determination permitted? Is it a social stigma to motivate? To me that has the opposite effect. Do they call DYFS on you? I mean really. Now if your child has 5 tardies a month I might buy a pattern and a parental visit with whomever in the school authority that it might be to correct a problem. But please, you parents need to have real heart to heart discussions with your school board on what we are trying to do here to educate our kids. If they are being marked for it on a day like this what a waste of my and your money.
Personally, I rather see busing money go to every child having an electronic reader and end the copious book bags and incentives to parents who take the responsibility themselves to getting their kids to school with tax credits.
Sad to me someone gets marked for being tardy on a day like this. Just get the kid to school I say and let’s put an end to this kind of nonsense.

That has happened to my son before and I don't think it's fair that they get marked tardy because of the bus.
Today I drove my son and a neighbor to school to avoid the tardy slip again.
We waited at the bus stop until 9:55 and then I uncovered my car and drove my son to school. He was marked tardy.
Too bad the snow doesn't pack well for snow sculptures.
Edgar school bus was early today!
