Summer Community Service Programs for Grades 8-12 From Library

During the Summer of 2010, the Young Adult Department of the Metuchen Public Library will offer two Community Service Programs for Metuchen residents who will be entering grades 8-12:

BOOK FRIENDS - The Library will pair participants up with a beginner reader. This program is for the mature teen who would enjoy spending time each week with a 1st or 2nd grader at the Library in a supervised program with varied and fun activities included. Training is mandatory and takes place on Tuesday, July 6 at 10:45 until noon. Participants will meet with the young readers on Tuesdays, July 13, 20, and 27 in the mornings.

GAME PARTNERS-Participants will get ready to run the Library's first video game tournament for younger kids. Game Partners will plan the program by deciding the grades to involve, the games to play, and the prizes to win; and they'll run the event on Sunday, Sept. 12 from 2-4 PM. On summer planning days, there will be time for the teens to play too. Participants must be available to come to at least one of the planning sessions and to the September 12 event. The planning dates are Tuesdays, August 3 and 10 from 1-3 PM.

For more information about both programs and for an application, visit www.metuchenlibraryteens.org.  Sign up by visiting the Library at 480 Middlesex Avenue, calling 732.632.8526 or writing the Young Adult librarian at KLiss@Lmxac.org.  Both programs are limited to 12 participants.
