The 2nd Annual Fuce 5k will take place in town this Saturday, June 19th. It's not too late to sign-up, in fact you can register on Saturday morning and catch the community spirit that is sure to light our streets on fire.

Three families will receive proceeds from this years race, each with a child facing serious illness: The family of Danny McGuinness, who is battling cystic fibrosis and currently in the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia awaiting a double lung transplant; the family of Maggie Gossiaux, a 14 year old with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and the Almeidas, whose daughter Emily is now in remission after fighting bone cancer  for the past two years

The race is organized and run in memory of  Mike Fuccile, our beloved friend and neighbor who tragically lost his life last year. His widow Nancy is on the planning committee and very happy that pre-registration numbers are high and thankful for all of the community involvement and enthusiasm. "To have Mike's name attached to this race and The Fuccile Foundation brings me such joy. I am honored to be helping these families. He would have been right on board and the first in line to help out. To see something so positive come out of something so horrific hopefully will inspire others to do good for their community," she said. "Ever since Mike's death, the community has pulled together time and time again to help my family.  I feel indebted to them and want to give back. Now, from here on forward, we will be helping other families in the Metuchen/Edison area. Without the support of the community, family, and friends, none of this would be possible."
Honorees are selected by the race committee, who sometimes receives recommendations from the community. Nancy explained "We try to keep the number of recipients to a minimum so that we're able to provide a significant benefit to each family."

Please join the event this Saturday - get fit and give back. There will be runners, walkers, plenty of kids, and more than one benefit for your heart. Race-day registration is from 7:00 - 8:00 AM at Novita Bistro, on the corner of New and Pearl Streets. The race starts at 8:30.  For more information, visit fuce5.com.
