4th of July Concert at Metuchen High School

The Metuchen Cultural Arts Commission will present the Brio Symphonic Band in an Independence Day Concert on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. on the Metuchen High School Lawn. 

The band will be continuing its series of Independence Day Concerts started in 1995 in the tradition of Sousa and Goldman.   Marches, patriotic selections, vocal and trumpet soloists, folk music and other traditional and classic band music will be included. 

Metuchen resident Edward Logue, former Supervisor of Music and Band Director at Metuchen High School will conduct the band.   He is a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College and the University of Arkansas.  Since his retirement in 1995, Mr. Logue has worked as a free-lance percussionist in the area and organized and conducted the Metuchen Gala Centennial Concert and the Metuchen 9/11 Memorial Concert.­­­­­­­­­­

Barbara Jeanne Smith - protégé of legendary opera singer, Jerome Hines and graduate of the Juilliard School of Music and Westminster Choir College will be singing a variety of popular selections.  She has performed at Alice Tully Hall, Steinway Hall and with some of our regional opera companies.  In addition she has been heard with the Florham Opera Association and was featured in a musical revue of Rodger's and Gershwin's music at the Brookdale Performing Arts Center.

Brio Band principal trumpet player, David Schneck will perform  "Adagio for Flugelhorn an Band" by Milton Kabek.  He has studied at the Juilliard School of Music, Hunter College and the Mannes School of Music.  His performance credits include Premier Soloist with the Staten Island Music Society Band and first trumpet with the Westchester Symphony Orchestra.   He is presently serving as President of Local 204-373 AFM.

Metuchen High School is located on Grove Avenue in Metuchen.  The concert is free of charge but please bring a lawn chair or perhaps a blanket if you wish to picnic during the program.  In case of rain the program will be held in the Metuchen High School Auditorium.
