Singer-Songwriter Sharon Goldman Stars In Showcase at Brewed Awakening

Metuchenite Sharon Goldman and some of her singer-songwriter pals will be performing at Brewed Awakening on Thursday, July 15th! So we asked her for a little info about her career and her upcoming shows!

I have been a singer-songwriter (with a day job) for the past ten years -- I have three CDs under my belt (I describe my style as contemporary folk-pop -- think Shawn Colvin, Suzanne Vega, Aimee Mann, that kind of thing), including a release last year with a harmony folk/pop duo called Sweet Bitters. I'm starting recording for CD #4 this weekend and will have a new album by September! My husband and I moved to Metuchen in November -- we previously lived in Brooklyn and I was actually a city resident for 20 years. So moving to beautiful Metuchen was a big deal! I'm originally from Long Island, so I do have suburban roots.
So far I've planned two performances at Brewed Awakening, where I both play host and perform a couple of short sets: The first will be on Thursday, July 15, from 7:30 - 9 p.m. I've invited two other New Jersey singer-songwriters to do their own half-hour sets: Princeton-based Sarah Donner plays indie-style folk-rock with a fun stage presence, punchy guitar and sassy lyrics. Rahway-based Tom Picard play laidback, roots-folk with a great sense of humor. On Thursday, August 19, I'll be performing alongside Brooklyn-based folk singer-songeriter Meg Braun, as well as Bellefonte, Pennsylvania's Jim Colbert. Also from 7:30 - 9 p.m.
Besides my own performing, I love acoustic music generally -- just to hear a singer/songwriter play original music on an acoustic guitar or a piano, up close and personal, I just think it's an amazing way to present and listen to music. A few years back I ran a singer-songwriter showcase at a coffee shop on the Upper East Side in Manhattan, and it was very well received and so much fun. So, when I started going to Brewed Awakening, I felt it would be the perfect place to bring local and regional singer-songwriters to show what they can do. And, I'd get to perform alongside them!

If all goes well, the series will continue through the fall! For more info, check out Sharon's website at
