Swim Across America, Metuchen-style, Charity Swim Sponsored by MMP Swim Team This Weekend!

The MMP Swim Team is sponsoring a Metuchen version of Swim Across America this weekend and you can see who's swimming and other information at www.swimacrossamerica.org/metuchen. According to director Melissa Karlovitch,

"As of today we have 63 swimmers registered (and we are still accepting registrations) and have raised over $3,000 so far this year.  This is MMP's third year doing the Swim 4 A Cure.  In the past two year combined we have raised just over $15,000 for cancer research and swam about 180 miles (that's a lot of laps). The swim on Sunday will take place at MMP from 8:00 - 11:00 am.  Last summer, Swim Across America sent three former Olympic swimmers to swim with the team at MMP and sign autographs.  MMP was also recognized this past spring by SAA with a volunteerism award for our effort sin the first two years of this swim. Our goal this year is to swim 157 miles and make it over the border into Ohio (Metuchen being our starting point 2 years ago) and to raise $6,000.
Many of our volunteers to help run this event are coming from Pack 69 Cub Scouts and two local Metuchen based Girl Scout troops.

A little bit about Swim Across America: Swim Across America has raised over $25,000,000 since 1987 engaging swimmers across the country in open water and pool swims.  The Metuchen Municipal Pool Swim 4 A Cure is part of the SAA National Pool Swim  - a united country-wide effort to hold fundraising pool swims through out the year to support cancer research, prevention and treatment.

The website has more information on how you can help this worthy cause! On your marks, get set, swim! Good luck, Metuchen!
