Metuchen Grapplers Anticipate Great New Season - Registration This Week

From Colleen and Tice Walker:

The Metuchen Grapplers are ready for another year-one of Metuchen's most popular sports is preparing for an exciting season filled with exhilarating competition and all the teamwork-inspired lessons that this very physical pursuit entails.

Boys and girls in grades K through 8 from Metuchen and North Edison are eligible to participate.  7th and 8th graders from Woodbridge who meet particular guidelines will also be eligible.  All levels of competition are available, from novice to seasoned veteran.

The Grapplers provides an opportunity for all levels of interest, from the child who wants to go all the way to the State Tournament to the child who is just interested in coming to practices and learning the sport.  As Tice Walker explained, "Kids get the most benefit from full participation but the coaching staff understands if wrestling is not first on the list of priorities (behind school work, of course).  For example, some families choose to participate only in Home meets during the week, since traveling to Away meets means getting home too late for some families."

Practice and league meets are 2-3 evenings per week from late November to early March.  Additional opportunities to compete are available at various tournaments scheduled on weekends throughout the season.

John Muccifori, Jamie Schleck, Tice Walker and Mike DeCoite (Head Coach) are the current leadership team and are supported by additional dedicated coaches, all with extensive experience and love of the sport.

Registration takes place on consecutive Wednesdays, 10/13 and 10/20 from 7 PM to 9 PM, at the Little League Club House on Oakland Ave.  The team website,, includes the registration form families can print out and sign to make the process smoother, as well as cost and other details.  The shoe "swap-box" will also be at registration for those returning wrestlers whose feet have grown or those new wrestlers that are looking for a pair to use.
