New Teen Issues Collection at Metuchen Library

Teenagers with questions about sexuality, bullying, drinking, body image, mental health concerns, and many other age appropriate topics, now have a special collection of resources to go to in the Metuchen Public Library.  Since its recent creation, the Teen Issues collection has already attracted many young readers and is expected to grow even more popular as word of its existence spreads.

Sponsored by the Metuchen Municipal Alliance/Youth Services Board, the collection includes informative and interesting books and pamphlets written especially for young men and women in 6th through 12th grade. The display can be found near the Library Place doors of the Library, at the entrance of the Young Adult (YA)section.

The Teen Issues collection features such titles as Turning 18 & The Law: A Complete Guide to Your Rights and Responsibilities; Teen Cyberbullying Investigated: Where Do Your Rights End and Consequences Begin?Queer: The Ultimate LGBT Guide For TeensGirl Source: A Book by and for Young Women about Relationships, Rights, Futures, Bodies, Minds and SoulsThe Body Book for Boys: Everything You Need to Know About Growing Up; and Life Strategies for Teens. On order are such titles as Teen RightsYou: the Owner's Manual for TeensAlcohol Information for Teens and It Gets Better: Coming Out. Other books address teen questions about handling stress, anxiety and depression, addiction, alcohol abuse by kids and their parents, healthy life strategies, and more.

The collection also features a changing display of free pamphlets from NCADD (National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence) with topics like "The Real Truth About Rx and OTC Medicine Abuse" and "Underage Drinking: Myths vs. Facts." A bibliography of YA fiction on teen topics is available, as well as monthly issues of the magazine Sex, Etc. which is written for teens, by teens, and published by Rutgers University.  To learn more about the Metuchen Municipal Alliance/Youth Services Board, visit
