Last evening the Metuchen High School Cafeteria was transformed into an authentic "Quinceanera" Celebration. This 'coming of age' 15th birthday party explained this Hispanic tradition originating in Mexico.  The students of the "court" (photo enclosed) made of 9th grade students, were 'announced' into the beautifully decorated cafeteria.  The girls change from flat shoes to high heels, symbolizing their entrance into womanhood.

A professional Salsa dancer was on hand to lead the traditional dancing.  Over 50 students in all grades learned the basic and some complex steps to the dance.  The party celebration ended with a beautifully designed and delicious cake.

This evening was sponsored by the MHS Culture Club under the direction of Spanish instructor Dr. Rosann Kamin.
