On Sunday, April 29 at 2 PM, award-winning Young Adult Author Carol Plum-Ucci will visit the Metuchen Public Library, 480 Middlesex Avenue. A Visit with Carol Plum-Ucci is co-sponsored by the Metuchen Public Library and the Metuchen Municipal Alliance, in collaboration with the Metuchen Public Schools.
In 2002 Plum-Ucci's first novel The Body of Christopher Creed received a Michael J. Printz Award from the American Library Association, one of the nation's top literary prizes. Christopher Creed, a suspense story set in the Pine Barrens of South Jersey, examines the disappearance of a bullied teenager and the effects his disappearance has on the entire community, including the bullies and the bystanders. In 2011, Plum-Ucci published the sequel, Following Christopher Creed.
Ms. Plum-Ucci is the author of five other works of fiction for grades 7-12. Her titles cover topics that range from bioterrorism and communicable diseases, to spies and espionage, to interpersonal relationships. In her books, the author explores teen issues like underage drinking, peer pressure, bullying, sexual identity and coping with grief.
In anticipation of the author's visit, two 11th grade English classes of Ms. Chris Rockwell at Metuchen High School are reading The Body of Christopher Creed. In addition, they are responding to a blog about the book. To see the students' insights and to read what they have to say about the book, visit www.metuchenlibraryteens.org (click on Blog at the top menu bar and then the book title).
A Visit with Carol Plum-Ucci is free and open to the public. It is a family event and all pre-teens, teens and adults are welcome. The author's presentation will be followed by a Question and Answer session with the audience. All titles will be available for purchase and for the author to sign. Refreshment will be served.
