Everything You Need to Know About the Metuchen Farmers Market - Opens June 16th!

From the Chamber and the Farmers Market committee:

Held every Saturday in the northeast corner of the Pearl Street Parking lot from 9am through 2pm, METUCHEN MARKET DAY, sponsored by the Metuchen Chamber of Commerce, returns starting June 16th with new faces and products, plus a full calendar of fun and informative events, along with many favorite past vendors.

New to 2012 METUCHEN MARKET DAY: Cherry Grove Farms (homemade raw milk cheese and grass-fed pork), Country Stand Farm (vegetables), and Gourmet Nuts & Dried Fruit. Returning vendors include Farmer Al's and Von Thun Farms (fresh fruit and vegetables), Sunshine Farms (multicolored eggs from free-range chickens), Vesco Foods (pickles, olives and marinated specialties) and Hoboken Farms (meats, pastas, fresh mozzarella and Bouley breads).


"Last year's revitalized market was a big success with new vendors and about 800 shoppers each Saturday," Nelson Li, METUCHEN MARKET DAY manager says, "but we're expecting this year's market to be even bigger and busier than last year. We are especially excited about the cooking demonstrations scheduled for July and August and additional appearances by local businesses and organizations."

July and August brings a full slate of events to METUCHEN MARKET DAY, including informative discussions on health and wellness, cooking demonstrations and author signings. The special events, co-sponsored by the Borough Improvement League, will take place at the Old Franklin School, 491 Middlesex Avenue. The event calendar will launch on the evening of Friday, July 6th, with a wine tasting by Unionville Vineyards, an award-winning winery located in Hunterdon County.

All additional presentations will be held on Saturdays from 11 am to 12 pm and include:

v  The Stress Effect by Jamie Checket, a private health coach, on how to use food and behavior to lessen stress; 

v  Let's Cook Indian by Hema Devarajan, an Indian cooking blogger; 

v  Say Cashew Cheese by health coach Evelyn Fuertes; 

v  Fresh Fruit and French Pastry by Kir Rodriguez, Pastry Chef Instructor at The International Culinary Center in NYC; 

v  Cooking Gluten-Free by Karen McNamara, a former special education teacher, and Allison Inserro, who runs the support group www.allergyfriendsnj.org; and 

v  How to Pack a Bento Box Lunch by METUCHEN MARKET DAY committee member Janna Morishima.
