CQE Helps Metuchen Students Prepare for College with Alumni Day and Scholarships

The 6th Annual CQE-MHS Alumni Day was held on Wednesday, May 30 at Metuchen High School.  Thirty members of the Classes of 2010 and 2011 returned to their alma mater to speak to their former schoolmates about the challenges, rewards and realities of college-life. Principal Bruce Peragallo spoke; Guidance Counselors Traci Grauer and Liz DeMott led the discussions and moderated the alumni panels, making the event a meaningful experience for each class--grades 9-12. CQE worked with the MHS Guidance Department on this event throughout the year, corresponding with the alumni, helping to plan alumni panels and questions, and bringing in 11 adult volunteers to host the event alongside school personnel.

The alumni represented the following schools:  Boston University, Carnegie Mellon, Columbia, Duke, Emory, George Mason University, George Washington University, Lafayette College, Manhattan College, Marist, Monmouth, Ramapo, Rider, Rutgers, Stevens Institute of Technology, Swarthmore College, TCNJ, the University of Delaware, the University of Hartford, the University of Massachusetts (Amherst), the University of Pittsburg, and William & Mary.

CQE will award $250 scholarships to three Metuchen High School students from the Class of 2012 at Senior Convocation on Friday, June 15. This year 17 students have applied for the scholarship. A six member CQE Scholarship Committee will convene early next week to judge the papers and select the winners. The papers were submitted to the committee anonymously.  The scholarship is funded by personal donations from  members and past and present members of the CQE Steering Committee. To learn more about the CQE Scholarship, visit http://metuchencqe.org/cqe-scholarship-application/.
