From the Superintendent's Office:

On May 22  five Metuchen High School students competed in the Annual Merck Science Day competition sponsored by the Merck Institute for Science Education and the New Jersey Science Teachers' Association. Top science students from schools across the state competed in a written test administered at their schools. Aditya Uppuluri (Sophomore), Jake Silverman (Junior) and Revan Sopher (Senior) took the Chemistry exam, which is intended for students in an advanced chemistry course.  Shreya Ganguly and Miranda McKiernan (both Freshman) took the Integrated Science test, the only test open to students in grades 9-11 taking a first course in biology, chemistry or physics.  "I'm very pleased that we have begun participating in this competition," said Kathleen Henn, the Supervisor of Science and Gifted Education.  "Our students did well in a very strong pool of competitors.  Aditya placed in the top fifth state-wide. That's quite impressive for a first year Honors Chemistry student competing in a test intended for the best AP Chemistry students.  Jake did quite well too, placing in the top two-fifths. All the students can be proud of their results."
