Project Citizen Edgar Project Presents Ideas for Borough Council Tonight

From Edgar School:

TONIGHT, June 4, 2012, a group of 6th grade students from Edgar Middle School will present a policy they created in their Life Studies class during the Project Citizen unit to the Borough Council at the meeting that night.  This policy is designed to combat the problem of texting while driving in Metuchen.  It is a combination of ideas from two Life Studies classes which were written while completing a citizenship based unit called Project Citizen.  The unit is designed to teach students about public policy and it allows the students to gain real world experience by identifying different problems in their community and then working to fix it.  The students have worked with Officer Joe Keane, who also serves as the D.A.R.E. Officer and Sergeant Artie Flaherty of the Metuchen Police Department.
