Bike-Walk Metuchen Makes a Point for Safe Transport in Metuchen

Bike-Walk Metuchen is a newly formed advocacy group comprised of Metuchen residents interested in promoting bicycling and walking in Metuchen, and improving bicycle and pedestrian access throughout the Borough. We seek to and improve the quality of lives of our citizens.

The purpose of this letter is to make you aware of our organization, and to let you know about some exciting events that we are taking part in over the next few weeks. On Friday, September 21, 2012 from 9 AM to 7 PM, Bike-Walk Metuchen will participate in the PARK(ing) Day on Main Street. PARK(ing) Day is an annual global event where citizens temporarily transform metered parking spots into PARK(ing) spots as a means for spurring conversation about how we

utilize public spaces. Bike-Walk Metuchen will transform a parking space in front of Brewed Awakening on Main Street, and invites residents to stop by, enjoy the public space, and learn more about biking and walking advocacy efforts in

town.

On Saturday, September 22, 2012 from 9 AM to 1 PM, Bike-Walk Metuchen will have a table at the Metuchen Farmers Market to introduce our organization to residents and recruit new members. Our table will be under the Borough Chamber of Commerce tent.

Finally, on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 from 7-9 PM, we will host an official Bike-Walk Metuchen kick-off event at the Old Franklin School. On this evening, Bike-Walk Metuchen members will present our mission and current goals, and solicit ideas and feedback regarding initiatives aimed at fostering increased, safe walking and bicycling travel options

in town. Interested residents will be encouraged to join the group, as well as learn more about our sub-committees, which will include a Safe Routes to School Committee and Planning and Policy Committee, among others.
