From the Borough: Preparing for Sandy TODAY

The National Weather Service is forecasting that Tropical Cyclone Sandy will evolve into a powerful storm as it heads for New Jersey with
dangerous winds and flooding rains expected late Sunday through Tuesday. 

Local information and advisories will be posted on the Borough Facebook page and twitter.com/MetuchenNJ. In anticipation of the storm, please take this advice :
 
• Plan. Prepare. Stay Informed.
• Use 911 for emergencies ONLY!
• Clean and repair rain leaders and gutters at your home.
• Clear debris from storm drains in the street by your home.
• Reinforce areas where water may enter your home, including your garage door. 
• Move furniture and household fixtures from areas that have flooded in the past.
• Secure outdoor furniture and fixtures. Remove outdoor decorations.
• Test and refuel your backup generator. Follow all ventilation safety precautions. 
• Test sump pumps
• Charge your cell phone
• Have a working flashlight and portable radio 
• Know how to turn off electricity and water at your home or business 
• Prepare an emergency supply kit 
• Prepare an evacuation plan, including a plan for your pets 
• Have some cash on hand in case ATMs are disabled
• Have your insurance policy numbers and insurance company claim phone numbers handy
