Metuchen Matters asked both the Metuchen police and the school district for statements regarding the arrest of Kenneth J. Christensen, booked on February 24th, in Essex County Department of Corrections. The arrest and subsequent investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (http://arrestfiles.org/publicinfo/kenneth-j-christensen)

Officer Dave Liantonio, the press contact for the Metuchen Police force, issued this as the official police statement: "The crossing guard was stationed at Main Street at Brunswick Avenue. He started in September of 2012 after his application was reviewed and he received training. His background check was clear and there was nothing in his past history to indicate a problem. He was terminated last week upon being arrested by the FBI. Any statements or questions, in terms of what actually occurred or his charges would have to be answered by the FBI as his arrest and any crimes committed occurred outside of the Borough of Metuchen."

When asked about the investigation, Superintendent of Schools Vincent Caputo made the following statement: "The administration and Board of Education are obviously concerned about the FBI arrest and the nature of the charges. We are monitoring the developments and will work closely with law enforcement officials if requested."

The US State Attorney's office issued further information.
