Doug Wheeler and Metuchen Little League Dedication for Hal Clarke

This is Doug Wheeler's speech from the dedication last week for Little League's late great supporter Hal Clarke.

"Good evening.  On behalf of the Metuchen Little League, I would like to welcome everyone to the Hal Clarke Way Dedication Ceremony.

Last summer, our dear friend and Metuchen Little League volunteer extraordinaire Hal Clarke passed away at a far too early age.  I had the opportunity to speak on behalf of the MLL community at his funeral.  I mentioned the impact Hal's loss would have on our community especially our youth who benefited from Hal's generosity, selflessness and kindness in supporting not just the MLL but many other programs enjoyed by our children.

The LL contemplated many ideas but ultimately decided to honor Hal by renaming the driveway leading into Fater Field and our Clubhouse as Hal Clarke Way and by sprucing up the run the bases area that runs adjacent to the driveway, which is now being named The Run the Bases Park at Hal Clarke Way.  We thought what better way to honor Hal then to name the driveway that all of our kids who benefit from the efforts of special volunteers like Hal will walk on as they finish the annual opening day parade and onto Fater Field for the opening day ceremony.  It will be a constant reminder of the contributions Hal made to MLL.

Wheeler went on to thank Dan Lebovits for his help in both filling Clarke's shoes for the league and arranging this celebration.
