Summer at the Library Offers Lots of High School Opportunities

There are a few remaining openings in the following FREE Summer 2013 Metuchen Library  programs for Metuchen residents who are high school students.

The High School Book Club (Gr. 9-12) will read Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. In the novel, sixteen-year-old narrator Jacob tells the story (with words and with old photographs) of how he discovers that his grandfather's tales of monsters and children with strange powers may actually have been true. The 2011fantasy novel spent 63 weeks on the New York Times Best Sellers List. A sequel is due out January 2014. The Club meets Thursdays 7/11 and 7/25 from 7:30 PM until 8:30 PM. A free copy of the book will be given to participants, courtesy of the Friends of the Library, at the first meeting.

Speak Your Mind: Public Speaking Made Fun.  Over 3 sessions, using theater games and speech activities, students will learn effective strategies for high school presentations, job and college interviews, campaign speeches, etc.  Dates:  Tues. 7/9, Thurs. 7/11 and Fri. 7/12.  Time: 2 PM-3:30 PM. This program will be led by Ms. Catherine LaMoreaux, a Metuchen resident and a high school English and Drama teacher at South Brunswick High School.

In addition, the following college-prep programs are open to Metuchen residents in at the Library:

Resume Writing for High School Students: Tuesday 8/20 at 1PM until 2:30 PM (grades 10-12)

The College Interview Workshop: Wednesday 8/21 at 1 PM unitl 2:30 PM (grades 11 and 12)

A FREE practice SAT exam:  Tuesday 8/27 at 12:30 PM until 5 PM (grades 10-12)

These programs are free to Metuchen residents and paid for by the Friends of the Metuchen Library.
