Girls Leadership Initiative At the BIL in April

Girls Leadership Institute has expanded into Middlesex County. Partnering with the the Metuchen Borough Improvement League, the Girls Leadership institute has opened registration for the first Parent-Daughter workshop in the 2013-2014 academic year in the County. Parent Daughter Workshops for 2nd/3rd Grade girls and 4th/5th Grade girls will take place at the Old Franklin Schoolhouse location and will begin in April. Workshops meet once a week for 4 weeks. Workshops are open to the public. Additional workshop offerings are offered in Northern and Central New Jersey.

Girls Leadership Institute develops a relationship with girls and their families as early in the girls' lives as possible, and strengthens that relationship over the girls' developing years in order to prevent the loss of voice that can accompany adolescence. Through these programs, girls build strong "internal" leadership skills, which include: recognizing and building healthy relationships, developing empathy and increasing emotional intelligence, learning how to acknowledge mistakes, accepting constructive criticism and approaching conflict as an opportunity for change.
