The spirit of the Olympic Movement will roll into Edison, NJ on June 14th, as Hub City Fencing Academy hosts a fencing demonstration and all-ages free lesson in celebration of Olympic Day. Olympic Day celebrates the birth of the modern Olympic Games in 1896. Fencing was included at those first games, has been included in every Olympic programme since then.

Edison Mayor Thomas Lankey will open the celebration, and Paralympian Andrea DeMello will speak to attendees about her experiences in Beijing. Hub City coaches will put on a demonstration of the three weapons: foil, épée, and sabre. Then they will lead participants in a free group lesson. No experience necessary, no equipment required, but definitely wear sneakers and athletic pants or shorts. Please feel free to invite friends and family to try it out with you. The more, the merrier! Participants will learn basic footwork, attacks and defenses for the épée. Volunteers will also get to fence short matches. There will be ample photo opportunities and light refreshments.
