New Dragonfly Multicultural Arts Center in Metuchen Auditioning for First Show

The Brainy Boro has a new arts center coming to town - the Dragonfly Multicultural Arts Center is planning its first production this summer.

The Dragonfly Multicultural Arts Center was started by Metuchen residents and mother-daughter team Catherine LaMoreaux (executive director) and Anna Paone (artistic associate).  Catherine has lived in Metuchen since 1990 and Anna is a Metuchen native.  Catherine worked a variety of arts administration jobs in Manhattan and was an administrative assistant at the Forum Theatre Company in the 1990s.  Anna graduated with a degree in film from the University of Michigan, has worked at George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, and currently works at Backstage magazine.

The team sees the need for more live entertainment in Metuchen and aims to create a new kind of community theatre, one geared towards ensemble-based theatre education and lesser-known, family-friendly works.  For their first production in August, Dragonfly will perform at the Old Franklin Schoolhouse/Borough Improvement League.  In the fall, they will start teaching theatre classes for all ages, with a special focus on multiculturalism and marginalized communities.
