Three Metuchen Students Graduate From Peretz Community Jewish School program

Three Metuchen students completed their Jewish education a graduation ceremony that took place on May 18, 2014 in Somerset. The three students, Eric Bernheimer, Julia DiBenedetto and Rachel Wyetzner, along with three students from other local towns, researched and delivered oral presentations on a diverse range of Jewish-themed topics. Eric Bernheimer presented: "Judaism in Albert Einstein's Life"; Julia DiBenedetto presented: "Matisyahu and Other Jewish Rappers" and Rachel Wyetzner presented: "Firsts in the History of Jewish Women." Students met their community service graduation requirement by collecting funds for UNICEF, collecting pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House, shelving food at the Highland Park Food Pantry and baking muffins for the Highland Park Senior Center. They also took part in The Remember Us project, which commemorates children killed in the Holocaust.

The I.L. Peretz Community Jewish School was founded by the Arbeiter Ring or Workmen's Circle, in 1924. It provides a secular K-7 Jewish Sunday School for youngsters in central New Jersey, weekly educational programs for adults including a Yiddish class, and a teen group. Members and their guests gather for traditional holiday celebrations including outdoor Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur ceremonies and social-cultural event like the annual retreat at Stokes State Forest.
