Children's concert organized by Family Arts of Metuchen
Performer: Baze
Award-winning children's recording artist Baze creates a super fun, super interactive and super duper event for kids! Featuring fun and interactive songs, The Super Duper Solo show encourages children to use their imagination and creativity to learn about the world in which they live. No show is complete without tons of bubbles, laughs, hip shakin' and toe tappin' good time songs that will make even grandma get out of her rocking chair and boogie up those stairs.
Cost: $4 per person. Weather permitting, bring a picnic!

Friday, July 25, 8 pm, doors open 7:30 pm
Raconteur Radio & The Borough Improvement League present: An Evening with Gertrude Stein & The Lost Generation: A Staged Radio Play/Themed Party
Spend an evening in Paris with Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso, Isadora Duncan, Henri Matisse, F. Scott Fitzgerald & Salvador Dali at 27 Rue de Fleurus. Hosted by Gertrude Stein! To commemorate Stein's passing on July 27, 1946, Jane Hardy returns with her tour-de-force radio drama portrayal of the dynamic matriarch and the (lost) generation of writers and artists she mentored.  Featuring theatrical lighting, period costuming, extensive sound effects, and a selection of period Parisian ballads (Edith Piaf, Josephine Baker) sung live by our resident honey-toned chanteuse, Danielle Illario.  Plus a range of French appetizers/desserts (TBA), and a variety of French wines, liquors, and cocktails popular with the Lost Generation including Pernod, dripped Absinthe, and the Jack Rose (using Harry MacHelone's 1920's Paris recipe). Cabaret-style table seating.
Cost: $35 in advance. $45.00 at the door.

Everybody, including Metuchen Moms, are speaking out against the difficulties and fear caused by reckless drivers in town and beyond. A recent column by Sarah Peters tries to shed some light on ways to help cut down on Aggressive Drivers in the state. MMP Swim 4 A Cure July 20th

The 7th Annual
MMP Swim & Dive Team's
Swim 4 A Cure!
Greetings!

Happy July 4th! Once again the families of MMP will come together in our "Swim Across America".  This event is the one morning in the season where we come together as a team and community not to swim for ribbons or a win a meet; but to show our Metuchen that we can do more with the sport we love and use our skill, athleticism and enthusiasm to give back in hopes that one day all will find freedom from cancer.  Join us on Sunday, July 20th as Metuchen Makes Waves to Fight Cancer...
Be a Part of Legacy - Join the team that has swum over 1,000 miles in MMP's Swim For A Cure & We Want You to Join Us In the Pool!

All MMP Swim & Dive team members and families, as well as any interested MMP Pool members are invited to join us in the Swim For A Cure hosted by Swim Across America [SAA], a non profit dedicated to raising money for cancer research, prevention & treatment.

This is MMP's 7th Anniversary hosting the "swimathon" and we plan on making it our greatest one yet.  Last year we splashed our way to over 1000 miles.  Can't wait to see where our Swim Across America will take us this year as we raise as much as we can in our fight against cancer.

For 2014 we are proud to partner with the MEY and the Janice Garbolino Run/Walk 5k.  All Swim 4 A Cure participants will have the opportunity the day of the swim for a special registration for the Janice Garbolino 5k in September.  Another great family fitness event opportunity for a great cause in making waves in the fight against cancer.

Please mark your calendars and join us:

Sunday, July 20th
7:00 am check in
7:30 am splash time - 10:30 am

Participating Swimmers are required to register in advance and on-line at

All pre-registered participating swimmers will receive a SAA cap and t-shirt.  Remaining items will be distributed on a first come- first serve basis and we will not be able to provide t-shirts to those who do not register online.  There will also be special prizes for fundraising and swimming milestones. Suggested donations to SAA of $35 or more per swimmer $75 + per family (Helpful Hint: creating your own personalized page or Family Team Page on the SAA site is a great way to spread the word to friends and family about your swim and fundraise for this very import cause).

Christine Von der Linn will be on hand at the Farmers Market at the Pearl Street Lot in downtown Metuchen for Vegging Out with Christine -- a series of informational demonstrations showcasing current crops, focusing on botanical families such as alliums, brassicas, vining plants, stone fruits and nightshades.

"Many people asked what I'm doing and why," she said. "When I told them that I'm at the market to give people ideas and guidance on how to use some of this beautiful produce, they think it's a great idea. People tend to get in a food `rut,' buying the same familiar foods week after week. I want to help them explore new tastes and show what nutritional powerhouses they are."

Von der Linn is a graduate of the Natural Gourmet Institute and enjoys using her interest in and knowledge of cooking and nutrition to offer workshops on health supportive cooking and food sustainability.

"My goal is to encourage people to try new and different foods, demystify them, and help our New Jersey farmers sell the delicious produce they've worked so hard to grow."

Upcoming dates and topics include:

August 9th - Night Moves: Tomatoes, Eggplant, Peppers and other Nightshades

September 13th - Kale: Still Hip, But Check out Its Cruciferous Companions

October 18th - Take Your Parsnip by the Hand: A Revue of Apples, Pumpkins and other Stars of Summer and Fall's Mixed-Weather Square Dance

November 22nd - Underground Movements: Roots, Tubers, and Colder Weather Edibles

Be sure to look for the Vegging Out Stand on these dates!
