Nails in the Wall Gallery Presents ARTIFACTS exhibit

Past, present, and future collide at Nails in the Wall, the Gallery @ St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 17 Oak Ave., Metuchen. The church will begin its 150th anniversary celebration with ARTIFACTS, a collection of relics, history, and lore. See and hear how the history of town and church, people and building, intertwine with the growth of our nation. ARTIFACTS include hand-crafted needlework, antique handmade Sunday School materials, many photographs, maps and blueprints, books by authors who have passed our way, and much more.

Come to the opening celebration Saturday Sept. 20, 2-5pm for music and refreshments.  "If these walls could talk..." well, the walls, floors, furniture, handicrafts, and especially the windows HAVE talked to our own Ted Latham, church and town historian. His many years of rummaging, salvaging, sleuthing and saving are manifest today on the Gallery walls. Talk to Ted at the opening, and you will hear even more than those Gallery walls coul contain. Walk through the historic sanctuary with Ted's printed guide for an up-close view of century-old hand-crafted  stained glass windows.

Want to know more? Ted Latham will offer three talks on Sunday mornings:

Sunday, Oct.12, 11:45am
HISTORY OF THE CHURCHES IN METUCHEN UP UNTIL 1876.

Sunday, Nov.9, 11:45am
BOARD AND BATTEN CARPENTER GOTHIC ARCHITECTURAL STYLE (St. Luke's and other Metuchen Churches)

Sunday, Nov.16, 11:45am
THE ROLE OF ST. LUKE'S AND FOUNDER HENRY MILLS ALDEN IN ESTABLISHING METUCHEN'S REPUTATION AS "THE BRAINY BORO".

ARTIFACTS closes on November 20. WHAT THEN? We begin our journey into the next 150 years!

Gallery hours: M-F 9am - 2pm; Sat. 4-6pm; Sun. 11am-2pm. For further information, please contact
