On October 20th, the Metuchen Borough Council presented a proclamation declaring the month of November as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in Metuchen.  In commemoration, purple ribbons will adorn the trees along Main Street in downtown Metuchen.

Borough Council President Jay Muldoon presented a proclamation to Dr. Deborah Mohammed Spigner, Beatrice Zatorski and Grace Shackney whose husbands lost their lives to this disease.  Dr. Spigner thanked the Mayor and Council on behalf of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.  She explained that hundreds of towns around the country do this each year.  The proclamations are collected by volunteers and given to congress as evidenced of the advocacy for finding a cure for this dreadful disease.

Dr. Spigner said, "We hope by working together with the Mayor and Council we will be able to continue to raise awareness, support patients and their families, and raise funds to find the cure."

In addition to having the purple ribbons along Main Street, Mayor Vahalla and several Council members volunteered to put purple ribbons on their lawns in solidarity.  Anyone interested in doing the same can contact Grace Shackney at 732-549-3294 or graceshackney@gmail.com
