J-Serve is the International Day of Jewish Youth Service. Since 2005, J-Serve has been a part of Youth Service America's Global Youth Service Day weekend. J-Serve provides teens with the opportunity to fulfill the Jewish values of gemilut chasidim, acts of loving kindness, tzedakah, just and charitable giving, and tikkum olam, the responsibility to repair the world. Across the globe, teens will join each other to make their community and the world a better place. J-Serve 2015 will be held at East Brunswick Jewish Center, 511 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick on April 19, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

These items are to be donated so they can be organized by our teens for delivery to American soldiers who have been deployed overseas (snack bags) and to Elijah's Promise shelter (toiletry kit) in New Brunswick. All donations can be dropped off at The Jewish Federation in the Heart of New Jersey, 230 Old Bridge Tpk., South River.

"Colorful Connections" at the Library All During April

COLORFUL CONNECTIONS IS a complement of works by a trio of artists which will be on display throughout the month of April in the Metuchen Borough Public Library. "Colorful Connections" is a flexible collective of exhibiting New Jersey artists comprised of Carol Clemens of Woodland Park, Margaret Cohen of Metuchen and Anita Gladstone of Springfield. "It is always remarkable to me that one starts with nothing, a blank page, and with a few marks of pigment creates something that didn't exist before but is still recognizable as if it were a real thing," Clemens says. "Paintings are not real; they only allude to the real ... supports and pigments expanded upon to become an expression of the mind or heart." The exhibition will feature works primarily in pastels. The artists have all studied with Christina Debarry, PSA, of Florham Park, NJ and are Signature Members of the Pastel Society of NJ. The exhibition is being held in the Metuchen Borough Public Library, 480 Middlesex Ave, Metuchen, NJ 08840. The library is open 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10a.m.-5p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. (732) 632-8526.

Metuchen Makery Opens with Tech Fun at the Library March 21st

You are invited to party with us on our first official open day at our creative workspace on Saturday March 21st 2015 from 11 am to 4pm. There will be a Grand Opening Ceremony with Dr. Robert Lemelson at 11 am. Our Grand Opening coincides with the New Jersey Makers Day and Metuchen Makery is proud to be one of the maker sites.

Demo classes and mini workshops will be on throughout the day. Team "Watt's Up?" who has competed in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) category of FIRST Robotics will be running robotic demonstrations and matches. Other workshops include Makey Makey, Coding, Inventing with Junk, Create Your Own Stories, Origami, and Design with littleBits. Come meet the people running each activity in the Metuchen Makery and find out about all the amazing things you can make with us!

Consider this event as a great way to network, meet other makers, and just have an awesome time with like-minded people. Come see first-hand what the hype is all about!

We started with nothing but an idea and with the help of our community and the generosity of the Lemelson Foundation have made a dream become reality!

Imagine a place where creativity gathers. A place that
cultivates imagination as the cornerstone of active learning and supports the library's evolving role as a community center where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to create tangible projects using shared resources.  The Metuchen Makery will be that place. The Metuchen community will soon have access to traditional tools and new technology in a hands-on, creative environment.

Start with us, grow with us, make with us!

If you're in the loop of what's going on in Metuchen, then you'll be at the Metuchen Public Library on Saturday March 21st!
