Jazzfest 2015 in Metuchen Saturday Sept 19

Metuchen celebrates the coming of fall with its annual Jazz Fest on Saturday, September 19th.  In addition, one of Metuchen's fine art galleries will host an opening reception for a major show.  Also on September 19th, the autumn installment of the Schoolhouse Songwriters' Series will take place at the historic Old Franklin School.

An exhibit, EarthAirFireWater: Elements/Sacraments, will mark the beginning of the fall exhibition season at Nails in the Wall, the Gallery @ St. Luke's at 17 Oak Avenue in Metuchen.   The environmental themed exhibition features 50 pieces of work by 29 artists, both local and from across the country. The public is invited to the reception from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.  Several of the artists will be in attendance to discuss their work.  Actress Janet Aspinwall will perform a dramatic monologue as the New Testament "Women at the Well."  For information about the EarthAir/FireWater exhibit at Nails in the Wall Gallery @ St. Luke's, contact Linda Vonderschmidt-LaStella at 732-906-4137.

At 3:00 p.m. the Metuchen Arts Council presents their annual, free, outdoor Jazzfest concert featuring the Carrie Jackson and The Jazzin Allstars and The Derrick Baker Group in the Plaza in front of Metuchen Borough Hall on the corner of Main Street and Middlesex Avenue (Route 27).  The plaza provides a lovely, intimate, outdoor venue to showcase these talented New Jersey musicians.

Jazzfest takes place at 3:00 p.m. on September 19th .  The public is invited to bring lawn chairs or simply relax on the bench seating that rings the plaza.  There is plenty of room to dance, so bring your dancing shoes.  In case of rain, the program will move indoors to the Metuchen Senior Center on the corner of New and Center Streets.
