February 28             Rescheduled- Drum Orchestra Experience for children in grades K-8. Join us for this hands-on experience as we welcome kids to speak the universal language of music. Together as a community we will build a performance incorporating music, rhythm, drumming, Jewish storytelling and song. The performers from Musical IQ will lead this unique educational and entertaining program which is open to the whole community and free for all attendees. The program begins at 5:00 pm, with a free spaghetti dinner, followed by an interactive drumming experience. Please RSVP by February 21st to officemgr@edisontemple.org or 732-549-4442.

 

March 3-April 14     Get Festive! A new Adult education class, exploring the history of Jewish holidays and how we celebrate them.  Which holidays are not in the Torah?  What's the deal with poppy seeds on Purim?  Is there anything I can do at home for Shavuot?  Taught by Rabbi Victor Appell, Thursdays from 7:30-8:30pm.  $36 per person for the course.

 

March 4-11               Jewish Book Fair for Children and Adults!  Just in time for Purim and Passover, Temple Emanu-El is hosting its annual Jewish Book Fair, with a great variety of books for people of all ages.  Call the temple office for exact times.

 

March 4                     Tot Shabbat! An age-appropriate Friday evening Shabbat program for younger children up to six years old which also includes a Jewish-themed art/craft session. The program starts at 6 pm. 

 

March 4                     RescheduledShabbat Gospel Service Temple Emanu-El rescheduled our popular annual special Shabbat service - Gospel style, in honor of Martin Luther King Day (cancelled in January due to snow). Once again we will enjoy the inspiring singing of the New Hope Baptist Church Choir.  Its leader, the Reverend Ronald Owens will be our guest speaker. Join us for this outpouring of friendship and caring, which starts at 8:00 p.m.

 

March 5                     Rugelach Cookie Baking Temple Emanu-El's Family Education Committee is sponsoring this hands-on program teaching adults and kids to make rugelach, led by a professional cooking instructor.  A musical Shabbat B'Shir service begins at 10:00 am, followed by the program and a light Kiddush lunch.  The program is FREE and open to the community!

March 13                   Rummage Sale Come snap up great bargains of quality, both used and new items, while supporting a good cause.  Donations of new or lightly used clothing and accessories are still being accepted.  Doors open at 9:00am and the sale ends at noon.

March 13                   Aladdin, Jr! Watch youngsters from the local community as they perform in our third annual youth musical production. The show starts at 3:00 pm, tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids, sold at the door.

 

March 18                   Community Shabbat Dinner Come at 6:30pm for a traditional communal Shabbat meal and stay for the Shabbat service, which begins at 8:00pm.  Cost is $20 per person ($12 children) MUST RSVP by March 14 to be admitted into the dinner.

 

March 19                   Diana S Herman Scholar in Residence This year we welcome as our scholar Rabbi Michele Medwin, author of the book "A Spiritual Travel Guide to the World of God." The program starts at 9:00 am with a Torah Study on "Does God Care What I do?" followed by a 10:00 am Shabbat Service.  Sessions continue after the service until 2:30pm, including a free Lunch. Please RSVP so we know how many people to expect!

 

March 20                   Purim Carnival Our annual Purim Carnival is from 11:00 until 1:00 p.m. Play games, have fun and win prizes.  All who come in costume will receive a prize. (Please bring canned or boxed food for our food pantry.)  The carnival will open at 10:30am for families with children whose needs are met through a quieter and line-free environment.

 

March 25                   Shabbat ALIVE! A joyous and participatory musical Shabbat service with a three piece band. 7:00 p.m.
