The Metuchen Arts Council is pleased to present DanceSpora, Trenton's dynamic professional contemporary dance company, on Saturday, September 25th, performing their original dance entitled Rapture For A Season.

Rapture For A Season is an enthralling new work choreographed by DanceSpora co-director Heidi Cruz-Austin created to be performed outdoors in a natural setting.  Rapture for a Season was originally commissioned by the D&R Greenway Land Trust and present at the Greenway in 2012, with the support of The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation. DanceSpora is a professional contemporary dance company based in Trenton, NJ. It was formed in 2008 by artistic directors, Pennsylvania Ballet alum Heidi Cruz-Austin and accomplished Hip Hop dancer David Austin.

Over the last 7 years, the company has captivated audiences at major festivals, special events, and their own bi-annual weekend concerts with their spirited brand of contemporary dance. Led by Heidi's inextricably dynamic choreography, our company's artistic range is wide and nimbly embraces a bevy of contemporary and traditional aesthetics.

In addition to local performances, DanceSpora has been invited to perform at many prestigious festivals and events including: Jacob's Pillow Festival in Massachusetts, NYC10 Festival (NY), Koresh" Come Together" Festival in Phila, PA, The Outlet Dance Festival at the Grounds For Sculpture (NJ), and the Independence Seaport Museum's Tides of Freedom: African Presence on the Delaware River exhibit opening (Phila, PA).have captivated audiences at major festivals, special events, and our own bi-annual concerts with our spirited brand of contemporary dance.

Now, in our fifth season as resident dance company for the Passage Theatre of Trenton, NJ they are poised to spring board to even greater acclaim. True to their name, the word "Spora" means spore and is indicative of our commitment to the growth of our artists and to the creation of works that inspire and take root in the hearts of our audiences.

The free performance of Rapture For A Season begins at 3:00 p.m. at Tommy's Pond located on Lake Avenue in Metuchen.  The public in invited to bring lawn chairs and refreshments and enjoy.  In case of rain, the performance will move to September 25th.
