Did you know that fruits at the farmers market are often sweeter and juicier in August? Hazy sunshine converts carbohydrates into sugars, sweetening our late summer bounty. With September looming around the corner, it's the perfect time to gorge on all things summer like picnics and barbecues, pool and beach parties, or just nibbling on a juicy peach on your front porch.

This week, we are excited to welcome our local YMCA with its Togetherhood program, a program to encourage volunteerism in projects that address important community needs. This Saturday, Y Togetherhood volunteers will provide information on a key current project called Hunger Doesn't Take a Vacation, a summer-long food drive that began on July 1 and continues through the end of August. All who inquire about the food drive will receive a tote bag and special pad for shopping lists. Other upcoming projects include the ongoing blood drives held at the Y, a planned National Day of Service project, and a new ESL "Walk and Talk"  project. Please plan to stop at the Y's table at the market this Saturday to learn more about these and other projects and ways you can contribute!

Next week is National Farmers Market Week. See the "Making the Market" section for interesting facts about farms and Farmers Markets!

See you Saturday!
